1:1 CHISWEA-

Children of the Street Welfare Association:

CHISWEA is a nongovernmental organization of volunteers with a mission of providing safe custody and nurture to the growing number of street children most of whom were left behind by the victims of AIDS. It grew out of overwhelmed makeshift shelter premises of a government Welfare department, and later moved to a small shelter house built by volunteers in the outskirts of the city of Arusha in Tanzania.

CHISWEA is currently caring for over 40 children mostly boys at their Sokon I center, where children are fed, clothed, housed on bunk beds, and offered rudimentary classroom setting  for possible placements in regular schools in the area.  Through  volunteers and donations of materials and money, the  facility is being expanded to provide room for those who are still in the streets.

Through a coalition of volunteer groups from the community and religious organizations, and in collaboration with the government Welfare department, CHISWEA has served nearly 2000 street children from its inception, providing what it could from counseling, family integration,, meals clothing, to school placements and teaching at makeshift premises.  You can help by giving your tax- deductible donations through CHREE to this or other orphanages.  Read more about the CHISWEA's challenges and achievements.
